They'll pay Japan in kind.

306 times in 12 months? Impressive. I don't even scramble eggs that many times.

OssanAmerica beat me to it. Send them a fuel bill.

I can hear the drone of drones comming.

Chinese and Russian officials are laughing out loud right now.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Not going even ask how much that is?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Great!

It's just got started, japan. Much more exciting time will be there down the line.

China and Chinese are big a bully even in workplaces, though some do it in a subtle way. Iam half Chinese though.

Several F-15s against a single Y-12. That's like using a shotgun against a mosquito.

Based on this massive no of intrusions and long period they happened, one can infer Japan don't have a solid case of sovereignty. At the very least Japan should protest to the UN to put China on notice for infringement of her sovereignty but since Japan cannot produce a water tight case against China to embarass her in the international community, it is fair to say Japan is holding on to the ill gotten Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands.

Any other country, Philippines for eg will make a loud protest at least to UN or the ICJ but why is Japan afraid to do so and have to resort to military intimidation and trying to lure US into her trap to start a war with China?

Just give it back to China..the islands don't belong to you, you know it deep down.

-11 ( +3 / -14 )

The Chinese are only flying over contested islands, territory they think should be theirs. Being a contested set of islands, the only sane solution is the U.N. If Japan can build a case... But I disagree with Tony, I don't think Japan is trying to start a war, but just trying to maintain a show of force, and maintain their own claim. Japan can't cry as loud as the Philppines because of the nature of the land in question.

I have to ask, how do you scramble a jet?

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Together is 553 times of emergencies from Russia and China! Was that Japan paranoid with her neighbours but willfully blinded their eyes when US military jets fly atop Mt Fuji for 68 years?

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

War is just one step ahead if there is a single 'flare' was fired! I think both sides will keep escalating the struggles to a breaking point at certain stage!

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Get used to it. China's growing wealth, military and arrogance will not relent until the global markets refuse/refuse Chinese products.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Now China knows Japan's strategy. Nothing will be new to any aggressors. It was just a game, and China won. Scramble the Ospreys next time just to see what China does. Can their fighter jet fly as slowly as an Osprey?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The photo of that Y-12 civilian jet was run by the 'Oceanic office' she has done a great job by luring Japanese jets to attack her! This image should be published in all text books for children to impress their galant and bravery and educate what the real world is like! As we know the struggle shall not done within one generation and the struggle wasnt just a few islands!

What a waste of taxpayer dollars.

The Chinese are only flying over contested islands, territory they think should be theirs.

The Chinese are flying all over the place, not just over the Senkakus. However, there were only two actual violations of airspace last (fiscal) year. One by Russia, one by China. The Chinese do seem to be in a massive campaign to test Japan's response to aircraft in its air defense identification zone. To put things in perspective, scrambling of aircraft is common when unidentified aircraft enter the air defense identification zone (not national territory). You don't wait until the aircraft is actually inside national territory to scramble. The most was in 1984 with 944 scrambles mostly against Russian planes. The raw data is available from the Ministry of Defense. http://www.mod.go.jp/js/Press/press2013/press_pdf/p20130417_02.pdf

I am sure a lot of casual observers are dying to hear the Japanese side of the story and what better platform than the UN General Assembly or ICJ? The yearly General Assembly is the best time for global attention but Japan just cannot produce a winnable case to embarass China. Instead she went to country after country like Mongolia, Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Europe , US and of course Philippines and Vietnam trying to buy over their 'votes' with checkbook diplomacy. Hey, wriiting off about $3.5 billions of debt by Myanmar is no small change just to win her support though 'reform' was the code word used to paper over the other intention of sovereign recognition over Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands!

Why do the Japanese have to send fighter jet to confront some ramshackle Chinese propeller plane that is sent to provoke them? Just have an armed drone circle over the island.

This way, the politbureau in Peking is laughing all the way --- they are getting great value for little effort.

I have always been wondering why Japan do not reexamined what it has done in the world II? And has not been willing to admit its bad behavior and has not been willing to apologize to the countries they had invaded at that time? What had been seeded at that time is what has been growing. If Japan is not willing to face the history, then it will face more and more aggressive actions from China.

Where did you get this wrong idea? LOL

I'd say bringing up the old WWII discussion is a little off-topic in this case...

And on-topic: A lot of countries probably have the same issue. I doubt it's just Japan that scrambles so many fighters during a year. Although, they are probably the country which has the most unfriendly nations around them.

Yes, Japan has faced the history but not deception that China has been producing.

To be in the military is like training thousands of men for the Olympics then never competing in sports.

If you are in the military, especially if you are a general or higher, your job is war.

To finish your career without war would be the most horrible sadness.

Military bosses must start and win wars to achieve immortality, a bronze statue etc...

This is antagonizing the enemy to make the first move to justify your aggressive desires. Period. China / USSR have nothing to lose.

Tony I think you got it completely wrong. Japan is not visiting these countries because they need support in this intrusions issue. They are preparing to move production from China to friendlier countries. Goodwill gestures like writing off loans is a necessity in any major business deal, but only if there is a possibility to earn it back later.

Japan does not have to take the case to ICJ. As long as Japan is concerned, the islands are its territory and it simply protects them from the invasive naighbour China. And no, Japan does not want to embarrass China though the same could not be said for the PRC itself. Embarrassing other countries is not part of the Japanese mindset. If anything, Japan is usually all too careful not to create situations which may put other countries in an awkward position.

306 Times in just 1 Year.

That's a lot if deterrence.

This shows how obsessed and foaming at the mouth the Communist Chinese Party is at grabbing the Senkaku's away from Japan.

What's even more absurd is China demanding that Japan and the U.S. not to send Planes, Ships, etc to stop China from taking over the Islands.

China just simply needs to exercise calm and reserve itself, otherwise, they will run into a GREAT WALL of deterrence from Japan, The U.S., and other Allied Asian Nations.

Japan should just shoot the next plane down so USA can kick the crap out of these commies.
