It is very unfortunate that North Korea uses abductees to carry out its espionage objectives and how the regime abducts foreign nationals and exploits their knowledge and abilities. A international strategy needs to be raised on the issues of abduction both unilaterally and multilaterally and pursue legal recourse.

Novenchama that was a very noble sounding post you made, it must have taken time to think about the post and then post to the article. I feel that you wasted your talents on this post because North Korea is a orphaned communist country that cares nothing about legal recourse. The leadership of that country cares nothing for it's people, why would they care about another country's opinion. The only thing that can change North Korea is the North Korean people, they must rise up and take control of their country. In doing so countless people would be killed and the struggle could last for years. That my friend is the only hope for NK.

At least a good start.

Hopefully they make progress, and an official residence there from which to operate would be a HUGE step towards better relations and investigations on the abduction issue, but they need to tread very carefully. They can't go in there hoping to score points with right-wingers at home or they'll be shown the door before clearing customs. Japan also needs to think about its current treatment of the defacto Pyong-Yang embassy in Tokyo, etc. If they play their cards right, they might just be able to provide some closure for those still suffering here with no news of loved ones, and better yet that closure could be proof of life.

and better yet that closure could be proof of life.

You mean 'proof of life' of the people that here on JT you have claimed are either not there or are dead?

As for me, it would be nice to see things move forward in a positve and fruitful way.

Slumdog: proof of life, if it exists. I have not said matter of fact that abductees are dead, but that it is very likely so. As for 'nt being there' there are hundreds listed as abducted, and once in a while they've turned up at home. Not sure why you would scoff at a person who hopes forthe best, but you're free to continue doing so.

The real only way to know truth in kingdom of lies its the war. The war and military defeat can stop this regime only. Northkoresn people is too many starved, brainwashed and hungry to be a danger for Kims that feed military high officials that can mantain their rule only. A korean spring is impossible.

Dennis - We know that North Korea is one of the world's most miserable places to live and yet has experienced surprisingly little rebellion. North Korean citizens remain surprisingly quiescent. A quick and short answer might be that the North Korean Army is so strong and could easily repress dissent. Why rebel when you know the government will immediately crack down? Realistically North Koreans will never take to the street.

Revolt in Dictatorships are impossible withouth a war. The nazi regime is not overthrown by people and USSRregime is collapsed not by revolt...end of kims is possible if China stop to help their bottom a day however.

I have not said matter of fact that abductees are dead, but that it is very likely so.

On most discussions on the subject you either suggest that the abducted are really in Japan (you have never once backed up this claim, either) or you suggest they are dead. Now, you claim concern. I find it hard to believe. On the other hand, I have been consistent in my desire for the situation to be resolved and in my sympathy for the victims and their families.
