This will probably halve the checks on domestic airlines.

That's good. Will it create more jobs (full-time/part-time)doubts remain.

I was going to write the same thing but then I read the last paragraph.

So now they'll have 200 "snap" checks per year. Not much of an improvement. How many flights per year are there of foreign airlines operating in Japan? Drop in the bucket? And yah, they ought to "snap" check JAL too.

Hmm, I'm sure this is the only country in the world that even sticks a nationality on a plane before deciding how much to inspect. A plane is a plane is a plane. Or are Japanese planes unique? Maybe they metabolise the fuel differently, or perhaps Japanese steel is uniquely different. Unless the planes are actually made in China, heh heh!

In the United States, about 3,800 such inspections are conducted each >year and about 200 in South Korea, compared with around 100 in Japan, >the officials said.

Mayday Mayday We obviously have a major comprehension failure here.

As said above, I hope they will check JAL flights more often too - think it's been a couple of weeks since a part last dropped off one of their planes so they're due for an incident.
