This has got to be the only case I've ever heard of where the buyer has to send reps to check out what the seller is doing. In the "real" world, the seller is respomnsible enough to adhere to the contract for fear of losing the business. And yes, we can and have lost business to the Aussies.

Pot calling the kettle blacker. They should inspect domestic companies. There are heinous food crimes committed in japan everyday.

Ossan, any facility that produces either milk or meats destined to US markets has to be periodically inspected and certified by USDA approved laboratories. http://www.fsis.usda.gov/Regulations&Policies/index.asp

Of course, the inspection process is a farce, you've seen Fast Food Nation?

"The inspectors from the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry and the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry will visit nine of the 40 plants designated as qualified to export products to Japan, the two ministries said."

When will they get around to the other 31 plants?
