So in this case what are we the main culprit of? Helping our ally become more proficient at defending it's territory? In that case we're guilty as charged.

Note to editor: The three arms of Japan's Self Defense Forces are called Ground, Maritime and Air. The Japanese Constitution forbids having an "army," "navy" or "air force."

That said, a smooth multinational exercise should go a long way toward keeping certain ambitions in check in the Western Pacific.

Japan is a multi-island nation with on-going disputes with Russia in the north, Korea in the north-west and China in the south-west.

It must surely be better for Japan to be prepared and capable in any direction, than unprepared and incapable.

Chinese will likely wait until Japan and US will go through some trouble times.
