I think I saw it on the TV news report. She had gestational diabetes and that is why the baby was born so large. Because of his size he was delievered by caesarian.

and when his visa expires he ll be arrested and exported back home amid a wave of anti immigration media attention, then bundled into a wooden crate and fired across the ocean in a supersized immigrant cannon.

So, if i understand correctly the baby has only gained 300g. in one month. Strange!

Right let's make this kid's life a freak-show. The Japanese medical association, the media and the parents should hang their heads in shame. Leave the kid alone if he's doing fine healthwise.

Why being negative? Just come, enjoy every minute of it and ready to leave anytime.

Ripleys believe it or not!!!! Nahhhh...japan wouldn't exploit the child!!!!!! Nahhh.....yeah like hell. It will be like a media frenzy everywhere this baby looks. He will be the focus of a 3part special on TV. Just hope the flashing cameras dont blind him.

It's being sponsored by a television network. Of course the poor kid is going to be exploited to bits and splattered all over the TV screen. I just hope he's being paid enough to make it worth it for him.

I wouldn't get too excited about this just yet - by the time he hits 3 there'll be American kids twice his size.

Hmm.. would the Japanese put this baby on TV if it was a Japanese baby?
Tahoochi at 06:52 PM JST - 26th October
Pardon my ignorance, but wouldn't that hurt?
kirakira25 at 10:03 PM JST - 26th October
It probably hurt quite a bit before he was born too! I am carrying a 3kg-er right now and my back is killing me! But I believe this "little" guy was born by caesarian.
Probably caused a bigger than normal scar though!

Why no picture, admit it everyone wants to see the giant baby.

I saw a news article on CNN about it so you can probably find one there. He really is huge, poor little guy. But I think he is healthy, and being closely monitored.
If you can treat gestational diabetes early the outcome is usually pretty good, but unchecked it can lead to macrosomia - literally a "fat baby" - because the glucose levels in the mothers blood are too high, giving the baby more energy than he needs to grow which is then stored as fat.
I don`t know all the details of this case, but it sounds like it may have been discovered too late for treatment, or maybe not treated at all. Complications can include breathing difficulties at birth, or delivery problems if the baby is too big.

They do research with whales, so why not with giant babies too.

yes, it is often enough true that when the mother has diabetes, the baby gets big, and that is one of the reasons why they always check whether the mother has diabetes or not during the pregnancy in the earlier stage.
i personally do not think it is a good idea to bring the baby to Japan, but i would think it's good if Japan is sending doctors to Indonesia instead. whether the baby is normal size or not, i don't think it is a good idea for a month old baby to fly long distance.. so either the doctors fly to indonesia, or wait a little longer before inviting the baby.
