here is an article on why the Sukhoi is not widely distributed despite its clear superiority.

romulus - I think the only true test of which fighter and the fighter's pilot's training is superior would be in an actual war. Let's hope we never find out, OK?

Flankers are good fighters, but you give them too much credit. In this encounter the odds were definitely against them, being outnumbered 2:1. The two Russian pilots would be stupid to engage four Eagles unless they had absolutely no choice, in which case it's doubtful both of them would be going home in one piece...

    Sarge,

The F-22 Raptor is probably better than the Sukhoi by way of stealth. The battle should be over before the Sukhoi pilot has a chance to even see the F-22 but in a dog fight the sukhoi is odds on once again but it is likely that the opportunity would never present itself. however the Sukhoi is superior to the f-15 but probably not the f-22. I take back what I said about it being the worlds best fighter jet.

against 4 US pilots yes but against 4 Japanese pilots? that levels the playing ground. By the time anyone made a decision to engage the enemy, there would already be 4 shot down F-15s and a bemused Japanese General polishing his Seppuku dagger.

Not only testing reaction times, but conditioning the enemy to expect intrusions from certain areas!!

    Hence, a decoy...!

F-15's have owned the sky for the last three decades.

I concede Russians jets have a beefier resume when it comes to shooting down civilian airliners.

    thats it?

They will do the same thing so often that the exercize will become meaningless...THEN...they will do something DIFFERENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That will cause chaos and confusion until it becomes routine!!

Do the jets matter as much as the missiles the jets carry?

Those silly russian bomber guys. What were they thinking ? I'm going to rent that maverick and iceman movie tonight !!!! I like the bar scene, I will try to copy that dating scene. "She's lost that feeling song !!!!! "

Do what? Teleport into the air over Tokyo? Japan has an up-to-date airborne warning system, modern fighters and missiles. There are air bases all over the country.

Do the jets matter as much as the missiles the jets carry?

Both matter. No point having great missiles if your plane doesn't have the electronics to handle them efficiently.

Only Americans cannot admit the Sukhoi is superior aircraft to the f-15.

    http://www.fighter-planes.com/info/su27.htm

That page says comparable but superior in many respects.

I think the general opinion is that the Su-27 is a better airframe, but the F-15 still has the edge in radar and weapons.

You will see this kind of post only on JT:

If only the Russian Federation gave the prototype of the Berkut S-47 w/ all technical data and arms package to the Japanese, then gave the Japanese industry 10 years to modify the fighter, Japan would be able to wipe out those two SU-27. That deal would be a dream fighter - industrial matchup is perfect.

I have heard the SU-27 would have an advantage in close combat, but the edge would go to the F-15 BVR due to arms.

VOR - you are right, but the US Navy also have form, as the relatives of the numerous innocent victims of aggressive US bungling on that Iran Air flight over the Gulf would remind you. Pot calls kettle black, I think
