Japanese husband and Nissan go all out to give wife anniversary surprise of a lifetime

TOKYO —

We all know about wedding anniversaries like the 50th year Golden Anniversary and the 25th year Silver Anniversary. Some people even may make a point of celebrating every year with something special, others may surprise their partner on an unplanned year.

One Japanese man teamed up with Nissan (yes, the car company) to give his wife the surprise of a lifetime for their 11th anniversary.

Check this video.

This stunt was put together as a part of “Nissan Presents Happy Surprise,” a promotion which offers purchasers of their latest vehicle, the Nissan Serena, the chance to have Nissan put together a specially-designed surprise for one of their loved ones.

This particular “Surprise Parade” package was chosen from one of several fan-made promotional plans by the winner, who said he regrets that he didn’t properly propose to his wife when they got married and waned to say thank you to her for bringing him so much happiness.

To surprise his wife, the husband loads the family into their new Serena, telling them he’s taking them to a party. The wife can’t figure out what is going on as the husband drives them into a large parking lot filled with Serenas. “What are all these Serenas doing here?” Her curiosity has peaked when red carpet is rolled out and she is asked to stand in the middle of it. You can see her wonder as her husband makes a speech confirming his love to her, but she is downright astonished by the ensuing parade, and moved to tears by the dance her friends and relatives perform before her eyes.

Everyone from school friends, family friends, to uncles, aunts cousins, parents, and in-laws appear before her dancing in celebration!  More and more people join the parade ushered in with the husband’s cries of “and who do we have here!” The husband joins in for the finale, which has grown to a total of 74 people.

It is moving enough to bring tears to the eyes of anyone who watches it.  At the end of the performance she is presented with an aerial photograph of the whole crew in the middle of the red carpet surrounded by Serenas parked in a heart shape. Awesome!

Incidentally, the 11th wedding anniversary is known as the steel anniversary, and is traditionally celebrated by purchasing strong and sturdy cooking utensils representing the sturdiness of the marriage. This couple purchased a Serena—let’s just hope it’s as durable as their marriage.

a lot of respect, when it comes to both surprises and pranks...

This one is a pranks... If at least they were getting the car as a present, fair deal. But here, that's just like those shows that send a bunch of giggling tarentos to invade your house (or your workplace, been there, got the t-shirt...no, it was a keyholder). Or the guy on TV game that proposes between two ads. Well, they maybe that's the dream of a family of Nissan otakus... If so, enjoy !

I can't believe that nonsense, not romantic, not fun, not personal, not nothing but annoying.

Like the wife kept saying "Why?"

Anything that a 30< aged husband would want go out and to do to surprise his wife on their wedding anniversary is always an ok thing by me regardless of taste or cost, especially in a country like Japan where men were traditionally allowed to hide their compassion for their loved ones until death do them part.

I have never seen anything like this since I first started reading Japan Today 8 years ago. This story is so nice and truly impacts the connection of family and love. This should be shown as a commercial so people can feel the emotion and love for each other. We rarely see this example of love and emotion. Keep showing things like this Japan and people will follow. Stop advertising suicides and upskirt photos by cops and killings of children by parents. Share love and emotion that is positive and uplifting. Kudasai! Love on another

    The article states that:

I would imagine that means that because the husband bought the car he was able to do this.

The whole video made me cringe :( Looks more like a marketing stunt than anything else. I'd rather do it in private in a more intimate way.

    WhatMeWorry

She's very lucky to have him as a husband. He seems super cool! That took a lot for him, or anyone, to pull that off and to join in at the end and dance along with everyone with a beaming smile! The parents also seem very jolly, not as reserved as you might expect from Japanese! The end was awesome, the photo sent to her keitai. The wife's response was typical of Japanese, pretending surprise all the way up to the end and beyond, "Why is everyone here? Why are you doing this?" God, just be happy and say so! She'll probably scold her husband later for embarrassing her in public. My J-wife's like that, every time I've planned a surprise, she goes stone cold emotionally. Just can't seem to handle the well of emotions that come up. I've stopped 'cause it's no fun anymore.

May be in the minority here, but I'm with majimekun. Way over the top. If Mr cleo pulled a stunt like this I'd suspect he was trying to cover/make up for feeling guilty about something really big.

All that's required for an anniversary is a candlelit dinner and a big box of chocolates. If you want to do something really special, add a diamond necklace, pair of earrings, or a trip to see those Kyushu relatives.

For once, some lovely stories. Still I agree with Cleo! Anniversary should be celebrated in a romantic way...

Cleo, you obviously don't drive a Nissan.

Note that hubby has to read out his feelings, his love, otherwise, if he had just said "I love you", it would not have been nearly as true.

Good stuff. Thumbs up for a nice article.

The husband seems like a nice guy, but still does not beat that other wife who greets her husband by faking having been murdered.

Cool, feel good story. Good Hubby. Hey Nissan America! When you going to offer the same in the US?! Valentines is just around the corner!

They should have added Serena Williams into the mix....after all, it was named after her.

Good lord there are some dark hearted folks on this thread! Get a life PLEASE!

Kudos to Nissan and her husband for pulling this off. It's a shame that people can't enjoy it for what it is and not look for some deeper meaning. Geez.......

Not even close. Serena Williams was born in 1981 and the first Serena's came off the assembly line in 1991, well before Serena was "known" as a tennis star. Nice urban legend try though......lol!
