Shows suffering is universal in time of war. All of them were rounded up and placed into camps. So did the French ever apologize to them and pay them compensation?

Japanese love to play the victim role, but hate to apologize for those they victimized. It didn't happen, see? It's not in the history books.

You should do a bit of reading on the horrendous war crimes that the Japanese committed in the Pacific islands. On one island they just rounded up all the local population, put them on boats and sank those boats in the middle of the ocean.

The locals of New Caledonia were fearful of a Japanese invasion and if the Japanese navy hadn't lost the Battle Of The Coral Sea in 1942, an invasion might have well been on the cards. The last thing New Caledonia needed was a group of Fifth Columnists among the 50,000 US troops stationed there and a repeat of Yoshikawa and Pearl Harbour.

I think it's the Japanese government who owe them an apology for precipitating the action with their invasions and behaviour elsewher in the Pacific.

I won't hold my breath because the japanese, while exceling at the victim card, suck with apologies.

You mean the Brits ? FYI, in 1941, the France was an ally of Japan.

New Caledonia was a Free French supporter of De Gaulle and therefore not an ally of Germany or Japan.
