It's good news. But recently Japanese young people don't like drinking whisky. In fact,I've never seen that my friends are drinking it.I think this news is worthless for many Japanese. If their prices came down, this situation could change...

One judge described the Yoichi as ‘‘Round and full bodied, starts with sugared pecans, vanilla, sweet malt, then moved into more hazelnut and fruit cake in the finish.’’

Another described it as ‘‘medium amber hue with a bold nose of sherry tobacco and old leather.’’

I do like Yoichi (only drank/can afford 10yr old for now) but reading such "expert" description just makes me laugh...what a load of pompous nonsense. What do they think that tells anyone? NOTHING! as its clearly interpreted differently for each person.

Haven't tasted this Yoichi yet and plan on trying it soon, but there's just something odd about SCOTCH whiskey that's not made in Scotland. Kind of like sake amde oustide Japan. My favorite/usual scotch is the Edradour 1997 Sauternes Finish. Highly recommended if you can find some...

Actually jinjapan that's a popular misconception. While they have obviously taken inventions from other countries and improved it beyond compare, Japanese people have also invented things on their own.

"Best single malt" for a 20-year-old.

Another 15 years and it'll win "best make-inu malt."

I bought a bottle of Yoichi Nikka in a bar at Roppongi (about 20 years ago), "bottle-keep", drank about half and haven't had the chance to go back to drink the balance. Do you think it is still there? Any volunteers to seek it out - must be worth a fortune now.

I always did like the Ballentine's blend that you got at the Tokyo (Shinjuku) Hilton with your "business class" room. That was pretty good.

What bar in Roppongi? I wonder if the bar is still there. If it is I bet the bottle still is too.

"Ahhh... Suntory Time" Sorry I just has the scene from "Lost in Translation" flash through my head. Anyway, I am a Scotch drinker and when I first came here was pleasantly surprised at how good the local product actually is.

"rjd_jr at 02:13 PM JST - 20th May While they have obviously taken inventions from other countries and improved it beyond compare, Japanese people have also invented things on their own." No no no, sweatheart... Maybe japanese are good in improving but they are obviously the best with stealing (I mean commercial secrets, just no doubts). But at the end of the ends you just did it honestly. Good work!
