A Japanese woman who was helping a Fuji TV crew covering the Japanese hostage situation was killed in a traffic accident near the Turkey-Syria border on Thursday.

According to the network, the woman, Kazumi Takatani, lived in Turkey and worked as a film coordinator. Fuji said a taxi, which was carrying Takatani, was on its way to Akçakale when it was hit by a truck.

Akcakale, in southeastern Turkey, is where many Japanese reporters covering the hostage crisis have gathered.

Both Takatani and the taxi driver were killed in the crash, local police told Japanese media.
