Hmm? Revised? Revised to favor a return to its reliance on nuclear power. However, even at its peak nuclear power only provided a quarter of Japan's electricity, which would not fully compensate for the increase in CO2. I see very little push in Japan to conserve energy. The amount of people I see sleeping in their cars with the engine running is astonishing! Directly after the tsunami there was a major push for energy conservation. Many shops and businesses changed to LED lighting and removed a lot of unnecessary lighting. However, that has all changed now.

It's generally accepted that the world's CO2 emissions need to be cut by 80% by 2050 to limit the globe warming above the dangerous 2c threshold. In the last 10 years emissions have RISEN 30%.

Japan is not alone - business as usual for mot of the ruling elite - still just focussing on the enconmy and growth.

With China, India and most of the Pacific rim modernising rapidly the chances of us significantly cutting emissions without some kind of major scientific breakthrough look very slim indeed. I think the only way we'll eventually do it is by ruining our planet and making life unsustainable for 6 billion plus consumers. There simply isn't the vision to achieve a change in lifestyle. On as brighter note, my daffodils have come up a treat this week

Ifd66 - It's generally accepted that there has already been too much CO2 released into the atmosphere and even if CO2 production was cut to zero tomorrow it would not stop the runaway effects of climate change. The world is already encapsulated in a shroud of CO2 that is preventing the heat from escaping, which could take a million years to dissipate and to be absorbed by trees, which is the biggest problem. Nearly half of the world's forests have disappeared in the last two centuries further adding to the CO2 woes. Cutting CO2 production is only half of the story. The CO2 already in the atmosphere needs trees to absorb it. I'm sure you've heard the expression, "Tress are the earth's lungs." It's very true!

Some people here need to do a little more research regarding atmospheric CO2, some of your assumptions are just wrong. CO2 is a very important part of the atmosphere. If there was no CO2 in the atmosphere, the Earth's mean temperature would be about -33C. CO2 undergoes a natural cycle being released in various methods (respiration being one of them). It is released into the atmosphere and then absorbed b y water, rocks and foliage (trees). Most of the CO2 released by man is absorbed by the oceans, however cold water holds more CO2 than warm water. The warming of oceans release CO2 which leads to an increase in the greenhouse effect. In actuality, CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere FOLLOW global warming, not cause it. CO2 levels today mirror the exact cycle that has occurred for about 400,000 years (long before we were here). This does not mean we should do nothing about it, we just can't continue to put MORE CO2 into the atmosphere. My present project, Snovit CO2 Solutions, is working to capture and store CO2 produced by natural gas production at about 4,500 meters under the ocean floor in a zone that is mostly sandstone which absorbs the CO2 naturally. Anyway, it's a first step. But make no mistake, the earth is entering another glacierization period (about every 70,000 to 100,000 years) and as this happens, the oceans will cool again and hold more CO2.

Japan against itself and against history. Nothing new here.

Japan’s greenhouse-gas emissions rose to the second-highest on record in the year ended March 2014, revised government figures showed on Tuesday,

Guess the lovely grey/brown cloud hanging over Tokyo this summer will be even worse.

When I was growing up it was the ice age it coming hoax. Now it's Global Warming, created by Al Gore who is a liberal scammer. Just look around have things really changed thant much not really. It's a scam created by liberals like Obama and Gore to redistribute wealth. Talking about wealth how much money has Gore pocketed from this scam !!!

@Pat Telzrow:

I don't know how old you are or when you were "growing up" but the theory of Milankovitch cycles has been pretty much substantiated by deep ocean, Antarctic and Greenland ice sheet core samples and fossilization records. The earth is entering a new ice age but it will take another 20,000 to 30,000 years (so don't stand outside and watch for it to happen). Anyway, the people you mention do not have a monopoly on fear mongering for political or monetary gain.
