Shouldn't that be "the American husband of freed North Korea abducted Hitomi Soga, and traitor to the western world"

  • timorborder at 02:50 PM JST - 3rd November

You are right bobcat. However, you forgot the term "lickspittle of Kim Jong Ill."

Seriously, I don't know if having this guy promote your products is a good thing or not. Having him smile for the camera would expose the people around to the wonders of North Korean dentistry.

In Kokubunji? Hey that is almost where I live! Where is my 300 grams of free Sado Island rice? Seriously, this guy is a traitor to the US and to all who fought against communism. I would not accept anything from such a traitor.

Right you are. He was court martialled and got a reduced sentence and discharged. Now the traitor should just stay out of the public eye. The Japanese should stop treating this guy like he is some kind of hero just because the N. Koreans giave him an abductee to live with.

    good for him

  • Pukey2 at 09:12 PM JST - 3rd November

    Two points:

How much experience does he have with Sado rice?

And why is Hitomi still called Soga? She is Mrs Jenkins. The other female hostages are known by their husbands' surnames. Those who watch Shinkon Irasshai will also notice this peculiarity.

"Jenkins was asked by many festival-goers to pose for a photo"

I would have asked him why he deserted the U.S. Army if I'd known he was going to be in Kokubunji.

Pukey - "why is Hitomi still called Soga?"

    You've got to be kidding.

Sarge: good one, he could have served his time and missed the 40 years of fun he had in North Korea. Personally I don't give a rat's behind about this loser but I wonder why they chose him as a rice peddler.

While there are many of us who will probably never forgive this man I think we shouldn't forget that he's already been charged sentenced and served (even if we don't agree with the sentence). So now he's living a quiet life pushing rice and posing for pictures. Pretty harmless I think.

it seems to be a good thing as he is an attraction (not unlike a panda) that people want a photo of. He has no expertise in rice but he's not teaching people how to grow, cook, or eat the stuff, just as an energized mechanical rabbit knows nothing about English can be used to advertise English classes. Oh, wait, they went out of business.

You should watch Crossing The Line for an interesting look on the defectors and some views on Jenkins.

Not seeing how this is national news though? Was yesterday a quiet day?

I wonder what Jenkins thinks about Japans efforts to starve North Korea to death ? I recall he got to visit the US when his mother was dying. The US showed great compassion by allowing this turncoat to enter the country. Now Jenkins is in a similir position, but does he have the nerve to do the right thing, and condemn Japan for it's brutal tactics. Does Jenkins have the guts to defy Japan and ship "Sado Rice" to North Korea ?

Does Jenkins have the guts to defy Japan and ship "Sado Rice" to North Korea ?

only if its tainted. If Jenkins had any heart for DPRK he would not be peddling rice from Sado and staying at Sogas house.
