Even when the bars are up, I still look left and right before crossing. And that also goes for crossing roads, even when the traffic lights are red. Didn't this student hear the trains coming?

In holland we have many train crossings with no bars or lights in the country side, we are taught to look out for trains before we cross. Maybe he was to busy on his keitai?

Actually this boy was a student of mine a couple years ago. Good kid, good student. One of those that's the life of the class. Had just finished his final exams, and no one knows quite what happened or what was running through his head at the time. Speculate all you will, but it was just after dark at an unguarded crossing on a straightway on a rainy evening. If any of these was the deciding factor is anyone's guess. Either he was trying to beat the train, or just let his guard down for a moment and wasn't paying attention. Regardless, the outcome was just as tragic. Definitely serves as a reminder though to stop and look both ways at these crossings.

3 trains ?!!! What the hell happened to this poor boy, and what was left of him after 3 trains "hit" him ?!
This really sounds weird.
