Lack of enthusasm? They bring it up every single time that North Korea is mentioned in any manner. What do they want them to do, invade and go looking for them?

sad problem is that for all the political grandstanding the govt at heart dont actaully care about those abducted or their relatives. having the issue to wave around and bleat about is more important to them.

Japan would really get the DPRK's attention if they stopped importing all that cheap clothing sold at Uniglo and Aoki. Plus all the shijimi and asari clams and other seafood Japanese love. Finally, the DPRK is the last bastion of cheap labor to-soon-be exploited in Asia and the Japanese government does not want to antagonize them over a few abductees. Its sad, but that is the reality...

Lack of enthusiasm? They bring it up every single time that North Korea is mentioned in any manner. May be they want Govt/NHK to chant 'mantra' 24hrs a day till 8th Aug., 2008

We are about to lose crucial leverage over North Korea,

Japan doesn't really have much leverage over North Korea, so long as China refuses to adopt a tougher stance.

This 'issue' will never be resolved. How long have these families been waiting?

the only thing this govt gets enthusiastic about is keeping their jobs so that they can continue stealing from the country

  • chardk1 at 01:22 AM JST - 1st July

No offense, but the while these families certainly have it rough, in the big picture there are lots of bigger problems to be dealt with, a fact they seem surprisingly oblivious to.
