Limousine driver found dead in apparent suicide in underground car park in Ginza

TOKYO —

A 54-year-old limousine driver died in hospital after being found with a knife in his chest in an underground car park in Ginza on Tuesday afternoon. Police said the man’s death was an apparent suicide after a suicide note, addressed to his family, was found in the trunk of the car.

According to police, the 54-year-old driver was found in the limo around 1:20 p.m. by the garage superintendent. He was taken to hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.

All the other Japanese articles I read said that had he was not dead and he was lying on the ground beside the car. One article said the police think that there was a high possibility that he had been stabbed as there was a kitchen knife sticking out of his chest. Another article said that the police were fairly sure that he must have tried to commit suicide as there was a note to that effect.

How likely is it that anyone would choose this as a means of suicide?

Unfortunately, very likely! It's a Japanese tradition! Just as much as stating the blatantly obvious - "there was a high possibility that he had been stabbed as there was a kitchen knife sticking out of his chest."

not likely at all...you would naturally hesitate before stabbing yourself in the chest...this was murder

Hey Wilbur, you should tell that to a sixteen year old girl I know whose mother dropped her off at a piano lesson and then drove around around the corner and plunged an 8" carving knife into her own chest. I'm sure she'd be interested in your murder theory. Does 'hari kiri' ring a bell?

Sticking a knife in your belly is nowhere near as difficult as sticking it in your chest. It takes an excessive amount of force to get a knife to pierce the chest wall cavity let alone managing to get it through the ribs. And to do it to yourself is almost next to impossible.

I'm guessing foul play on this one.

Yea, are they sure about the chest part? Murder or suicide, what a horrible way to spend your last moments....
