‘‘The parallels between Shibuya district and the West End are stark"
Surely parallels are similarities, so how can similarities be "stark"? I think this man means the differences, which if so I'd agree with. Shibuya's idea of an "old" building is anything built before 1990, but when you think about the beautiful palladian sweep of buildings at the bottom of Regent Street, you realise that only the only thing that needs changing in London may be the total banning of cars in the West End. That'd solve the pedestrian crossing issue permanently, as well...
The main London shopping district aka Oxford street needs a face lift. All activity seem to be on the main linear streets and once one steps into a side road it all becomes dead and quiet.
I think this sudden realization comes as ahead of the 2012 Games.

Good move. We need those kinds of intersections in L.A., NYC could use some too.

What will be the London equivalent of the Hachiko statue? Bulldog, or vomiting soccer hooligan. Wearing a hoody, naturally.

Advice to London: don't do it.

...and I almost forgot: a few hundred love hotels in the back streets?

Good idea I think. Diagonal crossing, all cars on red. Perfect.

Surely the real equivalent would be a statue of a commuter waiting for a Circle Line train !

I mean, Shibuya is definitely what I'd emulate in order to look "world class". Centuries-old architecture and street planning is so gauche!

hope they remember to include the schoolgirl hookers

Shibuya's fun, but paving over historic London and replacing art with neon is definitely not a good idea.

However improving traffic flow isn't a bad idea, whether or not they use the Shibuya idea.
