An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 struck Iwate prefecture at 3:33 a.m. on Friday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, adding there was no danger of a tsunami.
The epicenter of the quake was about 88 kilometers deep.
The quake had a lower 5 intensity in Morioka, a 4 in other parts of the Tohoku region, a 3 in Hokkaido and Shizuoka Prefecture.
Two injuries were reported, according to Fuji TV -- a woman in her 60s who fell out of bed, and a woman in her 70s who fell and hit her head.
