An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5 struck the Kanto region on Sunday morning, but there was no danger of a tsunami, the Japan Meteorological Agency reported. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
The quake struck at 7:54 a.m. in the southern part of Ibaraki Prefecture at a depth of 40 kilometers, the agency said.
The quake registered a 4 on the Japanese seismic scale of 7 in southern Ibaraki, a 3 in Tochigi, Saitama and Chiba prefectures, and a 3 in Tokyo's 23 wards.
