M5.5 quake hits Hokkaido, Aomori

SENDAI —

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.5 jolted the northern Japanese prefectures of Hokkaido and Aomori as well as their vicinity Tuesday afternoon, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the 2:26 p.m. quake. No tsunami warning was issued.
   
The quake measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in Hakodate in Hokkaido as well as Mutsu and Higashidoori in Aomori Prefecture. It registered 3 in extensive areas around the region, including in Iwate Prefecture, the agency said.

    My apartment outside of Morioka was a rocking-and-a-rollin this afternoon for a good ten seconds.
