Man auctions himself on Yahoo!

While most of the world has used online auction site eBay for 10 years or more, Japan remains one of the few countries where the site has never quite taken off. Yahoo! Auctions, a service set up in 1998, remains the firm favorite in Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and receives a phenomenal amount of net traffic every single day.

The site has provided us with plenty of interesting tales recently, with a case of a man auctioning off a human skull, soon followed by a quirky individual advertising soil allegedly bequeathed to him by God.

This week, however, tongues have been wagging after a 22-year-old man put himself up for auction under the rental services category, starting at just 8,000 yen for a 24-hour loan.

Unlike the Brazilian woman who auctioned off her own virginity a couple of weeks ago, the young man makes no promises regarding sexual favors of any kind, and claims to be simply “renting” himself out for the day (not including transportation time).

Let’s take a look at the product information for “Me.”

Sex: Male Occupation: Student Age: 22 Looks: Average (slightly rugged style) Height: 181.3 cm Weight: 70 kilos Special features: Kendo 1st dan, could probably manage small-talk with English-speakers, former captain of school drama club.

The hopeful auctioneer describes himself as having a bright, positive personality and being adept at taking photographs and painting. Naturally, under “condition” he lists himself as “used.”

But what exactly could one do with a boy rented for the day?

“I could, for example, help out with your job or around the house, or even take part in volunteer activities or just take the role of your pal for the day; please be creative in deciding what to do with me!” remarks “Me”.

There are a few things, however, that he draws the line at.

“I will not do anything that intrudes upon my notions of fidelity (I’m not selling sex here) / enter into situations that are potentially dangerous / take part in anything that may affect my physical health / take part in anything illegal.”

The auction still has one day left to go, but as yet has received zero bids, which perhaps explains why the user has since shaved 2,000 yen off the starting price.

If only he accepted PayPal…

Y8000 is not bad if he could take my place in accompanying my wife to her mothers house for the day....although that may enter him into several of his red light areas such as permanently affecting his sexual orientation, entering into a potentially dangerous situation, staying for lunch may affect his physical health....and financing a shopping trip with those two may give rise to thoughts of robbing a bank in order to finance their retail pillaging.....so.....I would be prepared to pay a premium.

Seems like a steal. I could really use him for some landscaping work I need done around the house.

Does he need feeding?

Absolute bargain! I would have him clean my apartment, including the balcony and windows, change the paper screens, and wipe down the walls. Fabulous deal for 24 hours.

he'll come by and create hell for you

If he's legit & not a psychopath, it's a steal!

That's only 300 yen/hour. Even if you put him to work around your house or running errands for you for... say... 16 hours of the day you're getting the bargain of a life time.

You dont always getthe value you pay for...

or even take part in volunteer activities

It is not really "volunteer" if you have to pay him for it.

Nice exposure for Yahoo Auctions (not that they need it...) Hopefully he'll get a bid and have the chance to pick up some extra yen. Good for him.

It's a nice change to read about something like this instead of J-cops committing crimes, someone killing their baby, etc.

Wouldnt that count into like slavery, or identured servant maybe?

Wouldnt that count into like slavery, or identured servant maybe?

No. Slavery would mean he has no way to refuse what he's tasked to do and would not be able to leave when the work was over. Indentured servitude is used when someone foots a major expense for someone else, and the second person pays off the debt via work. Neither of those conditions apply here.
