Man killed by car after arguing with girlfriend over whether to break up

AICHI —

A 20-year-old man was killed Tuesday morning after being hit by a car in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture. According to police, Shota Nakagawa had an argument with his girlfriend about breaking up. She told police that he said to her: “If you leave me, I will kill myself.”

Police believe Nakagawa then went and lay down on the road where he was hit about 12:27 a.m. He was taken to hospital but died of severe head injuries.

Well I guess that settles it.

so by j-law, who commit the crime? the (poor) driver or the (broken heart) guy?

No matter what, a driver takes at least part of the blame in any accident. It doesn't even matter if they're stopped and waiting at a light and someone rear-ends them -- insurance companies take at least 5% of the blame.

Anyway, waste of a life. Poor guy should have just tried to realize there are plenty of fish in the sea, hard as that can be to realize. And man... lying there waiting for a car to hit you... sheesh.

What a serious waste of a life...I bet the poor girlfriend will have this on her concious for the rest of her life. Senseless tragedy.

well then we are left with no wonder as to why she left him. she was lucky that he is the dead one. could have gone the other way.

    TJ,

Caulk this one up to the hormones and immaturity of youth.

Yeah, an older or more mature nut case would have just offed her.

    smithy,

don't be too sympathetic. I reckon the guy thought the girl would give in to his insanity. Probably a small part of massive emotional manipulation he put on her but being a complete narcissist, he never actually imagined it would end this way, but it did, and better him than her because we all know that was coming eventually with this kind of deluded man.

thank you once again for summing everything up so perfectly, why should anyone ever need to comment?

None of the usual,"Police arrested the driver...." or didn't they?

This is just one more example of immature Japanese boys who have been so spoiled by their mothers that they can not take rejection of any kind. Often they kill the girl. You see this in the news here a lot, and I think it is more prevalent in Japan than in other countries.

At Least he didn't try to kill some innocent children or push somebody in front of a train... It's terrible that he died, but it's good that he didn't try to take anybody else with him... As they are so known to do in this country...

hmmm, the car driver could have swerved to miss him and ended up face first into a power poll. not sure where your going with that line of thought.

God, what a waste. What is with these over-emotional youngsters?

One way the weak ones are sorted out. Unfortunately, this sucks for the driver and the kids family/friends.

The only thing she could've done is gone into her apt and called the police as soon as he threatened to kill himself. In the U.S., the police would've arrested him. But then he would've been out of jail the next day and then what? It's not her fault he killed himself. You can't blame that on her. This rule applies to men, also, of course. Don't let her blackmail you by saying she's going to kill herself if you leave.

Amazing... well, I guess he was too blinded and could not see that life continues onward with or without him, and doing this probably hurt his family and friends more than her. I am sure in her mind she is now doubly convinced she made the right choice to break up with him.

Boy: wow you seem really cool. I'm surprised you don't have a boyfriend....

girl: well, I did have a boyfriend, once..

boy: what happened? did you break up?

girl: Actually I broke up with him, and then he killed himself. Wanna go to a manga cafe?

boy: oh, uh, gee, look at the time, I forgot, I have to uh, um, er...

“If you leave me, I will kill myself.”

tuck in your skirt princess!. This guy was 20years old?? sounds like something I`d have heard as an 11 year old.

i'll award him a Darwin. Survival of the fittest. I hope she can see it that way. What a loser that uses emotional blackmail well then he deserves everything he gets and if that's a goodyear haircut then that's his problem. I hope she can go on without her blaming herself for this loser.

“If you leave me, I will kill myself.”

What if, just what if she told police that he said what he said, but she was angry with him and pushed him into traffice claiming they were no longer together and he committed suicide. Far fetched, but @&%^ happens. That arguement didn't last too long.

If she'd pushed him into traffic, I'd suspect the driver who ran him over might have offered a different account of things.

This sounds like a ture loser. But to be on the safe side, some toxicology tests might not go amiss.

Oops -that should have said "true loser"

Sounds like she made the right choice and he didn't.
