A 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were killed after the car they were in crashed into a pole with a street surveillance camera mounted on it, at the side of a road in Namerikawa, Toyama Prefecture, early Monday morning.

According to police, the accident occurred on National Route 8 at around 4:30 a.m. Fuji TV reported that Yuhei Kobashi, 19, and Narumi Kawabe, 18, were killed in the crash. An 18-year-old man in the back seat suffered light injuries.

Police said the car was one of a group three cars whose occupants were all friends. The three vehicles rear-ended one another. The car in the lead, driven by Kobashi, hit the pole and burst into flames.

A witness was quoted by police as saying all three cars were speeding.

None of the passengers in the two other cars were injured.

Speeding and driving too closely probably. Maybe even drinking. A recipe for disaster. RIP.

Idiots learned a hard lesson, and will think twice next time. At least they didn't kill any innocent bystanders.
