Can anybody explain what is Melamine? Why is it used in so many food products?

It gives caramels that really sweet taste, like Exlax. It gives other foods that extra punch needed to clean out the system.

Elud ... its a plastic and someone derived from or akin to CYANIDE ! and it is NOT used in food products. It also causes cancer. Duh huh? Hence all the worry and hurry to find out what the heck is going on!

check out wikipedia for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melamine

Melamine is illegal added to dairy products to fool tests into believing there is more protein content in a food than there actually is. I presume that this is done so that an inferior product can be sold to those who don't actually want it, and the melamine not only fools them, it makes an inferior product worse and potentially dangerous.

I am glad to hear that the authorities are paying attention and cracking down on this blatant toying with our lives and health by food producers. But I expect some fool poster to come criticize the government for "wasting our tax money" in 3...2...1...
