Missing Chiba girl found unharmed at shrine

A 17-year-old girl who has been missing since July 13 was found unharmed on Thursday on the premises of a Shinto shrine in Mobara, Chiba Prefecture.

Sayaka Nakagawa was taken to hospital for a check-up, police said, adding that there was no indication she had been abducted, NHK reported

Nakagawa was reported missing by her family on July 13, two days after she was last seen. A 30-strong police squad searched a nearby mountain forest for three days but turned up no leads. Her parents and friends went to shopping centers and the train station and handed out 500 leaflets with her photo, asking anyone who might have seen her to contact the police. They also put the leaflets in residential mailboxes along the route their daughter took to go to school.

On Thursday, a gardener at the shrine saw Nakagawa shortly after noon and notified police who brought her parents along to identify her. Police said Nakagawa, who was still wearing her school uniform, was malnourished.

Thank god she was found unharmed. I'm glad "the worst" didn't occur. I'm curious as to what happened.

She probably had a fight with her parents and ran away. If so, she certainly inconvenienced a lot of people who were searching for her.

Still wearing her school uniform.

Brainiac - Ten weeks is quite a long time to "run away". I'd be surprised if it were that simple.

The big question is "why?" didn't she go home? amnesia? something else?

So, what the heck has she been doing all this time?

I wonder what happened to her.

If she's malnourished she may have been living on scraps... maybe even living in the shrine grounds? Poor girl. At least she's safe now.

I was thinking about this article today and I think people shouldn't label this poor girl as mentally disabled. We don't know. I don't want to think this may be true but there is a chance the poor girl might have run off with a older boyfriend or the wrong crowd and she took off when she had the chance. I hope she is safe now.
