The nuking of H&N was the most disgusting and cowardly war crime ever committed. It was little more than a brutal and cynical live human experiment on women and children. The depravity and racism of the US government and military is apparent from Harry Truman`s demented giggling prior to his announcement of the mass murders at Hiroshima:

As Brig. Gen. Carter W. Clarke, the officer in charge of preparing MAGIC intercepted cable summaries in 1945, stated:

"….we brought them [the Japanese] down to an abject surrender through the accelerated sinking of their merchant marine and hunger alone, and when we didn't need to do it, and we knew we didn't need to do it, and they knew that we knew we didn't need to do it, we used them as an experiment for two atomic bombs."

Prior to nuking Hiroshima, the U.S. military had already obliterated over 60 Japanese cities with napalm and white phosphorous. This conclusively proves that Hiroshima and Nagasaki had little value other than as an opportunity for the US military to conduct nuke testing on human subjects.

In this connection, Paul Tibbets is on record as stating that Hiroshima was set aside as a "virgin" test city. Additionally, the primary targets at Hiroshima were residential in nature with the overwhelming majority of casualties being civilian. In fact, Hosokawa Elementary school was mere meters from the epicenter of the Hiroshima nuke strike. The fire-bombings and nuclear attacks on Japan were war crimes on par with the holocaust suffered by the Jews.

You have the benefit of 20/20 vision.

We also had the benefit of 20/20 vision back then. Those people knew what they were doing and rationalized it in various ways. There were enough people in power who were against it and appalled at the thought of using the atomic bomb. The hindsight is actually finding out what those people really thought at the time. It's all covered up in glory and blood and guts.

what the epicenter and the surrounding sights tell us, the horror of that times, I hope that humanity will have enough lesson and will never even think about such blunder again.

It is impossible to match hindsight morality with what feelings in Allied countries were at that time. Nobody felt sympathetic or compassionate toward the Japanese, particularly after the horror stories about prison camps and the maltreatment of American and British prisoners. Any weapon that hastened victory was welcome, and its fearful consequences were looked upon as a natural part of war . . . In the heat of war, sensibilities are hardened to an extent that seems incomprehensible in later years.

Why don't people forget about this already and move on?? It's been 70 years already!! History should be forgotten!

See how ea it is to apply such demands? For those who say China and Korea needs to do such things. History, good or ad, should never be forgotten. That's how we learn from it. This yer, and this month in particular, is a good time to tell stories, listen, and reflect, with the hopes we never repeat our mistakes.

asdfgtr writes. The number of thumb-downs shows not everyone agrees and underlines their cynical, silent approval of the decision by a president who thought nothing of employing the weapon that someday might wipe out all of humanity.

Killing human beings in that way, ensuring that those who did not die will never be able to live without the shadow of it on their minds, the repercussions of an atom bomb..let me remind you that the aftereffects of an atom bomb are not like that of any normal bomb.

Knowing all this, some people still agree with its use. Humans never learn, do they, and the winner always wins history!

The South Koreans have a different view of the bombing as they see it as Divine Retribution!

The Hiroshima and Nagasaki wartime atomic bombings were "divine punishment" on Japan, a South Korean newspaper has claimed.

The* article stated that the 1945 nuclear bombs were justified as a response to Japan's lethal experiments on humans during the War.

"God often borrows the hand of a human to punish the evil deeds of men," the paper said in an anonymous comment piece.

Referring to the activity of Unit 731, the infamous Japanese biological and chemical research facility that carried out the experiments, the article read: "The cries (of the unit's victims) reached heaven and the bombs were dropped on Tokyo and the atomic weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki."
