Well done, Mitsubishi Materials. Increase the Peace!

Yeah thats the spirit. Give them some money then move on. We are not guilty of what our ancestors did. We just hqve to give them the money they diserve since mitsubishi materials used them.

Phenomenal. A company that has the moral compass to do what its own government won't -- admit to its past wrong-doings and offer a sincere apology with no equivocation or obfuscation. I'm sure to the Chinese people the money is purely secondary. It is the recognition that their relatives suffered at the hands of a brutal society. This demonstrates the real meaning of honor. Bravo. .

As much as I welcome this move, its still too little and much, much too late.
As it is, more than an apology or compensation, much more meaningful would be a clear statement of exactly what Mitsubishi did and why it was wrong. The apology means little because the perpetrators are dead. The money means little because most victims are dead.

Wishful thinking. More like a condition for granting World Heritage status to Gunkanjima, etc.
Cogito Ergo Sum
An apology is a form of communication which given sincerely , is supposed to erase the earlier bad bit, and clean the slate for a new beginning. Mitsubishi is head and shoulders above the people at Kasumigaseki.

Just noticed that this story, about a Japanese company doing something positive in regards to Japan's brutal past with China has only gotten 9 comments. But the story about China advising Abe not to back-track on that history when he makes his big statement next month, has gotten 39. Says a lot about the mentality of the folks here on JT. Hope that it does not reflect the mentality of the overall population of Japan. That would be depressing.
