A Japanese macaque thought to have been responsible for a series of attacks on the residents of Hyuga in Miyazaki Prefecture, has been captured at last, city officials said Tuesday.
In a statement released to the press, Hyuga said that a team of 500 police and other volunteers was mobilized on Monday to capture the monkey, which is believed to have been responsible for attacking and injuring up to 18 people since late August, Fuji TV reported.
According to police, the team managed to corner the creature in a vacant house and seized it. City officials say that a range of options is currently being considered, which include transferring the monkey to a zoo.
Experts say the macaque is thought to be the male responsible for most of the recent attacks. However, police say that eyewitness reports suggest at least one other primate has also attacked humans in the area, so they are urging residents to continue to exercise caution.

500 police?
It be nice to see them work in full force to catch some of these 'slashers' that we have been hearing about over the last couple months
Carcharodon
Did anyone ask the macaques in the zoo, if they want this maniac prisoner put it with them? The zoo's alpha male will sort out this upstart.
