I didnt think kids "played" anymore...i never see them...

This tiredness comes from the childrens diet not from playing. How many kids don't have a good breakfast before leaving for school.Their mothers remember they had a traditional Japanese breakfast before leaving for school, but now these same mothers give their children a glass of milk and bread. Its not the childrens fault its the mothers.A good diet raises strong and healthy children.Just ask the medical profession, this is not my opinion its theirs.

Young children learn more from (appropriately supervised) play than they do from books and juku. Give 'em minello7's good breakfast, send 'em off to school and be prepared to spend time with them when they get home again.
Expand their little brains now with good nutrition and with physical and mental stimulation that they find enjoyable, and they'll be better able to 'study' - and enjoy it - when they're older.

Well, sitting in parks with their DS is the new "playing".
And mothers shouldn't "hope" they should "do". The Japanese are fond of saying 「とにかく行動」

I agree with all these posts - I see groups of elementary school kids sitting in the park all the time focused on DS
s, not even twitching! Young children do learn more from appropriate play than books, and Minello7s brekkie sounds great to me!We told our kids recently that eating their veggies gives them "big muscles like Daddy" - you wouldn
t believe the amount of broccoli and carrot I am getting through now, and every meal time has turned into an iron-man posing competition! Im going to have to break out the spray-on tan for them soon!cleo at 12:54 PM JST - 5th November
That's so cute! And nice that they want to be like Daddy.
When he was little my son refused to eat green peppers - until the mother of one of his little girl friends (he was in kindergarten at the time) gave us a bag of veggies she'd grown on pots on her balcony - including green peppers. I didn't have to persuade him to eat them - if little Hanako liked them, so did he!
The opposite happened when the school tried to persuade the kiddies to eat more seaweed by telling them it would turn their hair black. He refused for years after to touch seaweed.

I dont think these Japanese kids, especially elementary kids need to study any more than they are doing. At one point, I thought that they (6-12s) had to do an exam to get into Junior High!! but they dont. I dont understand, these teachers work for long hours for these kids and they still need extra lessons??? What does that say for all involved?
