Good forecasting. It seems that it was relatively accurate as reports indicate that the mountain suffered a minor eruption this morning.

We can see Asama yama easily from our bedroom window. My wife told me she had been woken up by the window rattling sometime just after 2am.

Couldn't see anything this morning because of cloud cover.

In Yokohama there was volcanic ash on everything outside. It's basically glass particles - not very good to the human body. If anybody is concerned turn - wear masks!

Does this mean there is a quake on the way?

That was the prelude to Mt. Pinatubo's big eruption. Of course, I am sure they know it will not be a big one like in Pinatubo. Else they would be warning people ahead of it.

Mt. Asama is one of many active volcanos. It was a small eruption.

Strange. Living in Saitama which is closer to the actual volcano in question, we've been blessed with clear skies and from what I can tell, a lack of falling ash. I guess it all depends on where the winds blow.

I'll try to remember to take in the laundry though...

What about Sakurajima? I read in Yahoo news that it erupted yesterday night as well!

    Tokyo seems unaffected.

I would expect a major disturbance in the pacific ring soon. Alaska was having some activity also.

eruption or earthquake: the season has started.

As others have said: this ash is very abrasive to the lungs = you need to wear a mask around this stuff.
