Bestselling author Haruki Murakami said Monday that writing a novel is like descending to a very dark second basement

I've read most of his books but have to say some of his stories give me a similar sensation.

Would have been great to attend the lecture.

My sentiment as well, Smitty. I share your disappointment.

Despite the strict ban on cameras and recorders, some journalists were able to capture much of his speech in shorthand. Admiration for the guy.

Perhaps his lecture will be reprinted somewhere and eventually translated into English.......

Quote: Press coverage was strictly regulated, with reporters barred from using audio or video equipment to record his speech and no photographs allowed of the author on stage.

Possibly it will never be reprinted anywhere, either in Japanese or in English, Ranger. Let's hope it does get printed though, as you say.
