And we're still counting cases because...?
Sebaschan at 06:47 PM JST - 19th July
well just counting wont help anyone :) but it would be important to supply an immunization so that there wont be a more dangerous flu at the end of the year.

Again this is pointless because, of the new cases 3500 have probably recovered already.

well it is still about. there have been some announcements in the uk recently, something like 65,000 people are expecting to contract H1N1 and fall down with symptoms such as a snuffly nose and feeling a bit under the weather

It is no wonder it is spreading so fast...no one is buying masks anymore
smithinjapan at 11:15 PM JST - 19th July
This flu is proving to be less in virulence than regular influenza. The only thing scary about this flu is that it's still spreading despite it being summer, and that it's now developed a resistance to Tamiflu.
Of course, they could just be keeping a tally so that they can try and justify buying and importing the majority of the world's new vaccine and send the public into a panic come fall so they all buy it at jacked up prices.

Some people are not reporting it. A doctor friend tells me his daughter had it last month, but he didn't see any reason to tell anyone.

Again.... RUN FOR THE HILLS!!
No, seriously, the media is only reporting it weekly now instead of daily. The WHO may stop reporting it altogether in the near future. If the numbers were not reported, many people may complain about that aspect of the story. Some of the people who post on this website can never be satisfied. Report it and they complain..... Fail to report it and they complain.

Interesting news, given the fact that only a few weeks ago the Japanese "Health" Minister (sic) announced to the world that Japan was free of Swine flu!
EUgirl at 12:09 PM JST - 21st July
realist: Health Minister Masuzoe never reported anything like that. It was the tourist minister, who with his enormous knowledge of virology (:D) announced Japan free of the bug. Masuzoe actually seems to be the rare case amongst Japanese politicians to have brains.

BTW: did you read that BA, Virgin Airlines and Finnair have come up with a new rule of not letting people with swine flu to board the plane.

Japan imports almost no vaccines generally - and absolutely no foreign flu vaccines.
leitmotiv at 03:37 PM JST - 22nd July
Prices are already 100% jacked down by MHLW to the point that no investment in new technologies can be made in japan vaccines - thus sector is technologically primitive compared to US/EU. They will not be "jacked up".
