Is this why I've seen other students happy going back home for unexpected a week holiday last evening?!

For Christ's sake, get off it!! I don't think there is ANY other country more desperate to be a part of the "new flu" club more than Japan... at least if you judged by how much stupid media coverage it gets. I'm so sick of these rediculous reports, there has GOT to be something better to spend time on!!!

Now WHO will have no choice but to move to Phase6 and j-govt should announce 'tsuyu holidays' for school children and increase the production of face masks.

I suppose that depends on the school. At my school that would not be the case...

At my school that would not be the case

I believe it would be the case, as credit for classes cannot be given if a certain number of credit hours have not been completed. This is regulated by the government, not by the individual school.

I agree with Freelnjapan this flu coverage is just pathetic. Meanwhile today 20 people have died in car crashes and 100 people have committed suicide. Where are the reports about these poor people japan??

Where are the reports about these poor people japan??

they are isolated incidents that can't be easily linked together into a nice scaremongering story

    Breaking News

WHO declared Level 6 flu pandemic. First time since 1968.

The WHO's latest statistics indicate the virus has infected 27,737 people in 74 countries and caused 141 deaths. Most of the cases have been in North America, but Europe and Australia have seen a sharp increase in recent days.

    From wikipedia:

There is also concern that the virus could mutate over the coming months to a more dangerous flu outbreak later in the year, and a vaccine produced now might be less effective in preventing its spread. Health officials in the U.S. pointed out that the "terrible experience" of the 1918 flu pandemic, which killed approximately 600,000 in the United States alone, was preceded by a mild "herald" wave of cases in the spring.

political propaganda, Aso wants us all to think he is in control.

the metropolitan government said it is set to examine how they were infected.

So pretty much no one cares about the infection anymore, the government has just given up?

This is still not "flu" season, so the fact that H1N1 is doing so well now makes me wonder what's going to happen when the conditions ARE ripe for flu outbreaks.

I can remember, as a 10yr old student, at the start of elementry school it was called off. in Calgary Alberta for half of the school season in 1939 due to the deaths & such to polo. Knew it set me back a year in my 4th grade.
