...because they probably saw it come from the ship, they just dont know whose boat it was. Pretty straightforward that one, nothing wrong with the reporting at all.
Not too many unidentified ships in that area. They should ask the Americans.
NO, I am not blaming America but they probably track all the ships round there.
440 kilometers east of Aden puts the ship's location smack in the middle of the Gulf of Aden and right in the middle of the busy shipping lane.
That is another brazen attack considering there are lots of war ships patrolling those waters. Those pirates most likely came from Somalia which is 150 kilometers away.
Now will the JMSDF be allowed to send ships over to the area to protect their interests, or will they just rely on the coalition of American, British, French and other European navies to patrol the area. Time for the JMSDF to step up and at least say that they would like to provide some token escorts for Japanese flagged shipping.
Or will the normal posters come out and say that this is all the US's fault for causing trouble in the region.
One attempted attack on a tanker hardly assures a complete disruption in the oil supply. But this is how markets behave.
Meantime, the J-govt ought to do whatever to get their MSDF vessels in on patrolling the PG/Hormuz straits together with the allies currently in place. And load real ammo this time, none of this "we're just refueling" stuff.

If it was "unidentified", how do they know it came from a ship?
Great reporting...

This just in: On fears of a disruption in supply, oil has closed at a new record high in Asian trading.
