Oh, okinawa does not count, but it is not over yet

How do you have .6 of a typhoon? Does that mean the other .4 of it did not make land fall? Kind of like having 2.5 kids. That poor kid thats only .5 there is pretty short.

I thought global warming meant >more typhoons. Can anyone explain this?

  • cleo at 06:51 PM JST - 27th October

Global warming (aka climate change, which is more accurate) means more erratic, difficult-to-predict typhoons, not necessarily more typhoons.

I think I'd rather have more, smaller, typhoons than fewer typhoons but the ones we do get are doozies.

soothsayer-The Global Warming Sect out there have no explanation for this because there isnt any. They have no idea whats happening with the weather from year to year, but to promote their manifesto they'll just say that its proof the weather is more erratic or some such nonsense.

Meanwhile those that think the fact that the ozone is depleted, temperature has risen exponentially with the rise in industry and consumption of fossil fuels, will say, "See! This year there were fewer storms than last year, so things are getting BETTER!" and when next year rolls around that the hurricanes are lined up to hit Texas and Florida, and some really massive typhoons mop up Japan, they'll just say, "Shucks... mother nature is kinda funny and erratic that way! but it's NOT erratic because of global warming!"

Global warming (aka climate change, which is more accurate)

Global warming is more accurate. Net increase in temperatures around the world. Climate change is the euphemism to appear neutral.

Nessie - If we call it global warming the people who want to go on burning fossil fuels like there's no tomorrow jump on every little cold spell and shout triumphantly, 'See! No global warming!' 'Global warming' is misleading; it isn't all about everywhere getting uniformly warmer.

And if stronger hurricanes & typhoons, snow in summer, flooding & droughts are your idea of a euphemism Nessie, I think I'd have to cover my delicate little ears up if you started calling a spade a spade....

Well, I'd say 0 landfalls is a nice year. As for global warming people can stop worrying about it since the world economy has imploded. Business activity and driving and other uses of fossil fuels are way down. I never put much stake in the concept but if temperatures level off I guess I may become a believer.

Hey, if you want to pander to fools, that's your business. Not that I don't see your point.
