I have to hand it to Japan, so far I am SO impressed with their daycare and nursery system. I know it has faults, access to places being one of them, but in my experience to date they are incredibly professional, kind, caring, flexible, and really think about what is best for the children (we are using a private one, I don`t know what the public ones are like).

Im sure there are people who have had bad experiences, but so far my kids have had a very happy, secure childhood and I have been completely secure in the knowledge I am leaving my babies with people who really care for them. I couldnt live here without our daycare place!

Yes, from our pre-school experiences in Japan, I would have to agree whole-heartedly with kirakira25.

In the above case of using art teachers, though, I am surprised that something similar has not been done here before. Absolutely essential in a child's development, I would think.

This is a great idea. I'll never forgive my school administrators for denying me the opportunity to take art classes.

Lucky kids. Too bad the shining flame of their creative souls will be dimmed if not snuffed out in junior high (but hopefully rekindled after high school).

I guess its how you look at your kids-whether having an art teacher at youchien age is better than having a Mum. I think they are just creating work for artists, who either have no inspiration for their art, or no work that is paying, or arent that good an artist, but know the basics.

@illsayit - is it not possible for them to have both???!

I for one would be the worlds worst art teachr if I were ever to try and teach my own kids art, and my kids LOVE their hoikuen/youchien AND the time they are with me.

I am happy because I get to take a break during the day which otherwise would never happen as we don`t have nay family close by, so it is win-win for everyone.

@sundoor - too true, unfortunately. We have been lucky so far, but I am nervous about finding a good JHS that won`t undo all the good work so far!
