Do the NZ rescue services have aircraft which can see? Surely the helicopter crews searched and saw the person!

    a radio with Japanese instructions

What Japanese hiker would go climbing without a radio to listen to the ballgame. I'm starting to wonder whether they're really Japanese.

A heart warming gift and good news.

    Great news.

But it might be time to fire Ikenouchi. It kind of sucks if your guide gets you lost.

Bad weather has forced them to wait another day - hope they get them off soon!!!

Thank goodness they are safe! A happy ending for this one.

What do they mean by bad weather?

In Japan, bad weather is any deviation of more than 2 degrees from ideal.

"as bad weather prevented a rescue attempt, the New Zealand police said."

I guess the kiwis are also scared about 2 degrees from ideal, huh? Hopefully the guys will make it. I'm impressed by the fact that they could find a radio with instructions in Japanese, and they tried to contact them by radio also in Japanese. could that mean that the tourists don't speak English?

Who wants to bet those guys did not even notice the survival pack?

  • zaichik at 06:32 AM JST - 5th December

But seriously, what bad weather is it?

Wind and/or heavy snow, as far as I can tell. Unfortunately, one of the two hasn't made it:
