Osaka shop owner in trouble for advertising '100-yen Molotov cocktails'

Police have paid a visit to an eatery in the America Mura area of downtown Osaka after several images of a restaurant advertising improvised incendiary bombs known as Molotov cocktails began floating around on Twitter.

Sure enough, in front of the restaurant sat a plastic box with eight beer bottles stuffed with cloths and a sign that read Molotov Cocktails: One for 100 yen.

However, upon further investigation, the Osaka Prefectural Police found that the bottles were empty. The 20-year-old owner of the restaurant apologized, saying the weapon advertisement was only a joke.

It’s actually hard to see it as anything else, since the gas required to fill a 500-milliliter Kirin bottle would cost about 75 yen, resulting in a razor-thin profit margin when factoring in all the other overhead. That, and there was also the absurdity of advertising an illegal business on the street in broad daylight.

In the end, the police let the owner off with a warning for creating a stressful environment for others.

Moron.

20-year-old

Hmm, still dumb.

In the end, the police let the owner off with a warning for creating a stressful environment for others.

And lucky. The good news is he'll think twice next time, hopefully.

Guess that's sort of why I like to stroll around the America Mura area in Osaka. I can always find something to laugh about ... in this case, a wacky advertising come-on ...

"It was a joke" now replaces "I was drunk" for covering up stupidity.
