Plane overshoots runway, goes into lake in Okayama

A small private jet landing at Konan airport in Okayama City overshot the runway and ended up in a lake on Wednesday.

Airport officials said the 10-seater Cessna, coming from Tokyo's Haneda airport, landed at 3:45 p.m, but failed to stop, local media reported. It continued for 120 meters off the runway without stopping and slid into a lake.

Police are questioning the 54-year-old pilot, who wasn't injured, on what happened.

Thank goodness no one was hurt or worse.

Maybe the plane needed a wash and this was the next best thing? The good news is that all on board are okay and now they all have a story to tell over a beer, coffee or tea for the rest of their lives.

Quite right. Thanks for pointing that out.

When I read the headline, I thought it was Okayama Airport. I've taken off from there and there is no lake, just cliffs on either end. It's like a giant aircraft carrier. Thank goodness it was just a minor incident and no one was hurt.

At least the jet engine didn't start back up after the pilot got out of the plane. It has happened!
