How do you "deeply reflect" on the fact that your intended stud, was a female? Way too funny.

It took them 4 years to discover the right gender? I don't know if it's funny or sad.

Well, I have never been close enough to a bear to determine its gender... but I do know how to tell if a bear is violent... as the feces will include bells, and knawed sticks!

Maybe the bear was Bi-... Bi-polar.

oh the scandal, lesbian polar bears what's next? Seriously though if no one involved in the breeding campaign bothered to check the gender of the bear they should be out of a job.

Yes, a funny story indeed, but it makes me wonder about the professionalism of the zoo in question? Perhaps less of a zoo and more of a sad menagerie of penned in exotic animals, not unlike the horrid place I went to in Hitachi a while back, next to a run down theme park.

They made the same mistake on this bear's sibling, so the problem is two-fold: 1) When the cubs were born, that person made two mistakes and wrote it down. 2) When the bears were moved, the new zoos didn't check.

    1) It's apparently virtually impossible to tell the sex of a baby bear. 2) It's even more impossible to tell the sex of a full-grown bear just by looking (of necessity, from a distance...)

There must have been some point however when the bears would have been anaesthetised for some reason or other - that would have been a chance to check. There's something kinky about drugging a bear just to get in its knickers, though....

Isn't it possible to tell by analysing urine, or something?

Don't female bears have something which is equivalent to a monthly?
