With the prices of frozen food I saw at the supermarkets in my neighborhood yesterday, I dont know that Ill be eating much of the stuff anyway from now.
Are these gyoza from the same company or even the same batch? It is not clear at all from reading the news piece.
The Chinese supposedly have tested with adding pesticide on the outside of intact bags in the cold for some time. They said they could detect trace amounts inside the bag following this procedure. I have yet to see any such experiment from the Japanese side.
To equate a sealed bag with being 100% leak-proof is always troublesome. (Yes, I have enough scientific background and hands-on experience to say that.)
Nobody in Japan needs to eat Chinese food, just as no Chinese need to buy Toyota cars. Don't you ever forget that Japan has a perfect record on food safety. It amused this news reader that yesterday bloomberg reported Japan Inc, such as Toyota, might look to China to avoid recession.

How big should one make the gyoza case? I'd say, the bigger, the easier it is for American, European and Chinese car makers in Chinese market, which of course doesn't matter to Japan or the average Japanese at all. It won't bother me at all either.:-)
don't forget that these companies admitted their fault, apologized and fired people. when the Chinese will do that, everything will be buried as an "unfortunate accident". until then, I will keep my impression about their definitions of "responsibility" and "respect"
okapake, japan is rich country,it can import all sorts of raw materials (wheatflour, rice flour ,corn flour,grains,meat,mushrooms,garlic...) from healthy country like Australia,Canada,US...or any where in the world for that matter. But whyChina?China has its own enormous problems with polutions, contaminations of insecticides, pesticides, carcinogenic compounds ,dioxin...etc.The answer,I think, likely is trade balance: you buy from me I buy from you.You stop,I stop.
give me a break timeon. they admit their mistake, fire people, and then continue doing it until they get caught again. Then they do it all over again. I don't really trust the chinese companies, but I for darn sure don't trust the japanese companies to be telling me the truth either...

Funnily all pesticide-d gyoza only head in one direction out of China: the east to Japan.

China still hasn't made any efforts to help solving this case. Instead they just pretend the fault isn't theirs (like always).

Hmmm, Snowbrand milk, E coli 157 in Osaka bento boxes, Fujiya bakery scandal, re-labelled beef and pork....
Wouldn't call that a perfect record.
Farmboy at 02:21 PM JST - 29th April
On the plus side, none of the gyoza seem to have bugs....

How about banning the import of “gyoza”? I mean they do US Beef wrong why is it that “gyoza” doesn't get banned?
