Earlier on Friday, Muifa skirted the northern Taiwanese coast and prompted officials in China to issue the country’s highest storm warning of the year.

This is a joke, the typhoon came at the main island of Okinawa from almost due east, hit the island with it's outer bands yesterday AM, is currently passing to the island's south, heading north west, and it somehow skirted Taiwan early Friday?

Early Friday it was still to the south east of Okinawa moving at roughly 6 knots per hour, which is roughly 11 kilometers per hour.

Oh and the TOP gusts near it's center are close to 60 m/s, while or 200 km/h, but the top winds recorded on Okinawa so far were 49.6 m/s at Miyagi Island, Naha reported winds of around 44 m/s.

Old news!

Might I say that typhoon Muifa is still battering the island of Okinawa, and it is still currently in "bofu keiho" status, or gale warning status. Not so old really.

Read the title. The typhoon isn't approaching Okinawa, Japan. It's appraoching Taiwan, China.

We have been in bofu iki (?) for nearly 30 hours straight, and we are not expected to get out of it until 6AM tomorrow morning. Tanabata no less.

I hope nothing happens to my hometown of Ishigakijima 「石垣島」 Missing so much that area... =(

I think Ishigaki island will be well spared, just a lot of wind and some rain. Yes, this typhoon is moving at a snail's pace. We will soon be out of the "red" zone or Boufu Keiho zone but it's raining like crazy. Stay safe!
