The pressure reading is quite frightning but rain is so far not much on Yakushima

"a nine-year-old girl ... caught a finger in the door."

Wow, I wonder whose fingfinger it was.

Read on another news site that it was the 9 year old girl who lost her finger in the door that slammed so which is correct the man or the 9 year old?

'Severed' is more appropriate than 'chopped off'. Either way, a terrible and unlucky thing to have happen.

The geniuses of the world had better figure out how to stop this thing before it gets to Kyushu, or Kyushu people will be very disappointed.

Gosh, is it so wrong to want the geniuses of the world to stop typhoons from causing harm to people?

Stay safe everyone, this really is a big typhoon historically.

I really hope that there are no more serious injuries it is a huge powerful storm. Stay safe everyone.

According to the Weather Underground website in the USA, Vongfong will be downgraded to a tropical storm when it makes landfall just south of Kumamoto probably around dawn on 13 October 2014 (JST). But the big concern is that it will drop a LOT of rain as it traverses through much of Honshu, so flooding and possible landslides could become a major issue.

Enough with the hysterics: it's now classed as a tropical storm and not a typhoon. There will be no typhoon striking Kyushu this time.
