Prince Akishino, Princess Kiko celebrate 25th wedding anniversary

Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko on Monday celebrated their silver wedding anniversary in an unusual way -- they released a statement to media in which they interviewed each other.

In the statement, Akishino, who is the emperor's second oldest son, and Kiko talked about their first encounter, their pre-married life, marriage and their three children, Fuji TV reported.

Prince Akishino shared a story about his youngest daughter, Princess Kako. He said: "It rarely happens but recently she and I went shopping together. She is usually not too sweet to her father, but she took care of the payment for what I picked that day.”

At the end, they evaluated themselves as “Acceptable” as a husband and wife over the past 25 years. “'Good' and 'Great' will be our goal to strive for from now on,” said Prince Akishino, while Princess Kiko responded: “I feel happy to grow old with you toward that goal,”

Whoever had handed over the money it would have been the taxpayer who paid, wouldn't it? Do they have any independent sources of income?

"Acceptable?" That's very realistic and to the point, after 25 years together...

I respect their 25 years of marriage, although it shouldn't be surprising since it occurred within the carefully managed cocoon of the Imperial Household, but personally I've never liked Princess Kiko. I find her creepy, like the ultimate Stepford wife. Just my opinion.

The elite of the elite celebrate 25 years cohabiting at the public's expense. Congrats!

Just curiosity, Trinklets. Though, doffing the cap to the gentry and their petty achievements didn't do my ancestors much good. Whatever floats your boat, eh? It's a free world.

I'm sick and tired of supporting this outdated system and would feel much better if I read a story where they both denounce their positions and end up working, paying taxes like normal everyday people and let my taxes support those who are really needy.

I like the way they publicly evaluated their marriage. Very rare for members of the Imperial Family I'd think.

You're entitled to your opinion. In the same league as your evaluation of Audrey Hepburn or Michelle Borth :-) Yeah, I get it. Opinions are shaped on two dimensional images. Not on actual experiences or respect.
