It would be better if they situated them around Japan's own nuclear power stations and processing plants, much more likely to busy there.

Those are secret facilities. The government isn't allowed to go there!!!!!!!!

    Oh please!! what a joke..

As wanderlust said, this facility would serve better near Japan`s nuke powerplants, which have a far far shoddier radiation history that any nuke powered craft.

I'm sure the US Navy gladly will allow them to put the monitoring stations on base property, they have nothing to hide.

We've been safely operating nuclear powered vessels for decades, unlike Japan's one and only nuclear powered ship the "Mutsu" that left a glowing trail everywhere it went and had to be scrapped in the end.

I do agree that these units would be better around Japanese nuclear facilities but then somebody would be constantly running around turning off the alarms in the middle of the night :)

Great for them. Contrary to what the naysayers cry about, the citizens and their representatives have every right to ensure their safety. They don't need people condescendingly telling them that radiation leaks in Japanese waters are nothing to worry about because it was an amount less than what is absorbed through everday sun exposure, or some other nonsense (which really tries to gloss over the fact that a leak DID happen, and only revealed after the fact, so totally irrelevant as to exposure levels).

Great for them and nothing unique as far as what anyone else in the world would do to protect themselves.

The facility is koban sized building and inside their is guy that stares at a geiger counter and a lizard in a cage. If abnormal levels are detected, he is tested for cancer and the lizard is tested to see if any godzilla like mutations are occuring.
