Rainbow Bridge to turn pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

By Michelle Lynn Dinh

Rainbow Bridge, which spans Tokyo Bay, is usually lit up with the colors of the rainbow at night. This October, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (called “Pink Ribbon Festival” in Japan), the usually multi-colored bridge will get a pink make-over to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Officials said they are hoping that the new pink colors of Tokyo’s iconic bridge will help remind the people of Japan about the importance of the “early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment” of breast cancer. The bridge will be lit up every night starting Oct 1 from sunset until midnight.

To make this event possible, Nissan has worked with city officials to provide power to the bridge using the Nissan LEAF and Nissan’s “LEAF to Home” energy supply system which draws power from the electric vehicle.
