"‘‘A nuclear-powered aircraft carrier is more dangerous than nuclear power generation,’’
I believe that is incorrect.
"said Social Democratic Party leader Mizuho Fukushima in a speech, adding that even Japanese lawmakers are not allowed to enter the carrier."
Why should they unless invited? Are theytrained JMSDF personel?
How about u bunch of our fat lawmakers want to go aboard Japanese Aegis destroyers? Can they do so without invitation?
‘‘Japan, which has the pacifist Constitution, must not be involved in the United States’ ugly war,’’
The 7th fleet is in Japan to be "involved" if an ugly war starts between
China or North Korea and Japan.
I agree with Ossan, but it's interesting to see a turnout for these protests. Again runs contrary to those who spout that Japanese are brainless sheep who never speak out or are afraid to speak out en masse about many issues.

hahaha, doing things en masse are what brainless sheep do best. I find your observation rather contradictory.
as has been said in many previous posts...that they show little concern or knowledge about the nuclear accidents that have occured repeatedly in Japan. about 10 years ago I was 3 km away from infamous nuclear leak in Ibaragi-ken. a city truck drove around advising people in very polite japanese to "please keep your windows closed today, thank you"
"Again runs contrary to those who spout that Japanese are brainless sheep who never speak out or are afraid to speak out en masse about many issues."
Population of Yokosuka 422,000 !!! Seems that 15,000 is hardly "en masse"... which also btw seems to include "everyone" in attendance, both pro and con ! Now how deceptive is that ! Bwahaha !
They're a pain that the people of Yokosuka would rather do without. First off the locals and I mean the Japanese locals that live here would rather do without them. I talk to them all the time about this since I have lived in Yokosuka for 7 years now.
The protesters aren't locals, they are brought in by busses from all over Japan. They bring traffic to a standstill as they have to close two lanes of the major route here (route 16) so the outsiders can march and that backs up traffic all over town.
They also fail to realize that Yokosuka is a Navy town, a Japanese Navy town long before the second world war and is also host to one of the largest JSDF bases in Japan. The U.S Navy base is a 'neighbor' of this base.
So not only does the U.S Navy base employ a mass of Japanese workers through agreements made with the U.S and Japanese government respectfully, there are also tons of jobs directly related to the Japanese bases that have zero U.S workers attached.
The town has a Navy tradition that Yokosuka is proud of. The 'protesters' are tolerated but not really welcomed.
I wish they would protest at the Diet instead and I promise you most of the Japanese people I have talked with here in Yokosuka (my neighbors, friends and Japanese co-workers) have told me the same thing without my ever even asking them what they think.
By the way the Social Democrats owe me some ice cream, I went grocery shopping on base and was headed back home, normally a twenty minute trip and my wife and I got stuck waiting for the damn tour buses to fill-up with these yahoo's to take them back to where ever they came from. The trip took an hour and a half and the Ice cream melted.
I think that pretty much sums up the locals attitude also about these protests held here.

even Japanese lawmakers are not allowed to enter the carrier.
I hate to burst this "broads" bubble, but I am in the Navy, and have an active security clearance, and I can't just waltz into the reactor room on a carrier. Also, per international agreement, warships are deemed soverign territory of the nation they belong to. So, when the JMSDF training fleet visits Hawaii, no US Immigration, or state law officials can just walk up and demand to inspect any location on the ship. They have to go through the normal diplomatic channels.
I have said it a thousand times, I don't mind the people protesting, but please have an idea of what you are protesting. Read the facts, both pro and con, and then make up your minds.
Mizuho Fukushima can stir 'em up all she likes. she'll have forgotten about it all in a year or two once she joins ikebana class or her husband gives her more spending money
