TOKYO —

The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo will host the 10th Annual World Alba White Truffle Auction from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday Nov 9, with proceeds going to charity. The prized Alba truffle – commonly referred to as “white gold” among epicurians – will take center stage in a multi-city auction linked together via satellite. In addition to Tokyo, the event will be linked to two Italian locations: Masks Hall of the Grinzane Cavour Castle in the Piedmont Region, and Merano, to coincide with the Merano International Wine and Culinary Festival.

The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong Executive Chef Umberto Bombana will be working alongside Tokyo’s Executive Chef Aloysius Bokhorst to create a five-course culinary presentation highlighting the season’s rich harvest and the rare, white Alba truffle. During the course of the evening, each location will facilitate on-site auctions for five white truffles ranging in size from small to medium, with the evening culminating in a simultaneous auction for the evening’s pièce de résistance – one of the season’s largest truffles. 

Last year’s signature auction garnered 143,000 euros (approximately 19.7 million yen). In Tokyo, the money raised will benefit the United Way.

“The arrival of the white truffle is so greatly anticipated worldwide and coveted for its taste, rarity, exclusivity and price,” said Ricco DeBlank, general manager at The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo. “We look forward to creating an evening heralded for its dedication to the culinary arts as well as its charitable awareness and support of three very worthy organizations.”
