Sasago tunnel partially reopens 27 days after cave-in
YAMANASHI —
The outbound lanes of Sasago tunnel in Yamanashi Prefecture, where a cave-in occurred on Dec 2, killing nine people, re-opened to traffic on Saturday. The two lanes, going in both directions, were opened to ease traffic congestion during the year-end holiday exodus.
An official of Central Nippon Expressway Co (NEXCO) told a news conference that all the ceiling panels in the outbound lanes had been removed and replaced with large ventilators, NHK reported.
The speed limit inside the tunnel has been lowered to 40 kilometers per hour.

A five-car crash closed the tunnel on Sunday, just one day after it was re-opened. No on killed and one person injured.

What does lowering the speed limit got to do with this? Travelling at 70km/h too much pressure on the walls?
