Semitrailer flips over on Tomei Expressway, killing driver

A semitrailer flipped over on the Tomei Expressway in Kanagawa Prefecture, on Monday, killing the driver.

According to police, the accident occurred at around 6 a.m. near the Hadano Nakai interchange entrance. Sankei reported that the truck, which was carrying steel frames, hit a guardrail on a curve and flipped over, throwing the driver out onto the road.

Police said the driver, who was in his 50s, sustained injuries all over his body. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The expressway was closed for about three hours after the accident.
